11th St Housing

11th Housing is located just north of Temple University in Philadelphia. The project is sited on a bock with some new construction and a public recreation center and facilities.

The concept for the project is to create a medium sized apartment building, seven units, that benefits from economy of scale, yet engages the urban fabric. In addition, the building has some common indoor and outdoor spaces woven throughout. The massing is conceived of as multiple individual units fit together that express their individuality to the street. Materials found in the older homes nearby are layered ontop of the massing to add depth and reference the historic buildings.

The project is being built as solar power ready. After the first year, the owner will evaluate the utility expenditures and install solar power accordingly.
